DescriptionWWS Tumblingbarrel.ogg |
English: Since the 1920s the electric tumbling barrel was used in the chain factory to smoothen the surfaces of the finished welded or forged chains. For a number of hours in the rotating drum, the chain links rub against each other and against the wall of the barrel. This removes welding and forging residues and polishes the surfaces of the chain links. Loud rattling noises are the sound of this process, which lasts several hours.
Tags: Chain factory/Iron/Machine/MetalworkingThe machine was in use in the chain factory JOTO-Werk in Fröndenberg. Now it is used solely for show purposes. Its location is the Chain Forge Museum in Fröndenberg (Germany, North Rhine-Westphalia), which exhibits the manual and industrial manufacturing of chains. |
