Georgian is a language of the Kartvelian family, the official language of Georgia, the literary and national language of Georgians. One of the languages with a long literary tradition. The Georgian language uses a written script based on the Georgian alphabet, which is based on the phonetic principle. The number of speakers (as of 1993) is about 4 million in Georgia itself and several hundred thousand in other countries, mainly Russia, the United States and Turkey. |
