English: Pieces of primitive medieval stained glass window, dated 7th century, from Notre-Dame-de-Bondeville ( Normandy, France ). These are reuse of Ancient Roman glass, cut in geometrical or figurative shapes ( feet, leg, eye, fish ). Lead rods were used to piece them together, but weren't molten yet.
Picture made during the temporary exhibition "Le Verre, un Moyen Âge inventif" in the Musée national du Moyen Âge ( Musée de Cluny ) in Paris. The oldest samples of this kind of stained glass windows are from the 5th century. |
