Summary
[edit]DescriptionView from the top of the quarry - geograph.org.uk - 896924.jpg |
English: View from the top of the quarry These quarries were developed from 1847 onwards to provide millions of tons of rock for the infill of the 1.75 mile long Holyhead Breakwater. The outer shell of the breakwater, however, was constructed of limestone shipped in from Moelfre on the east coast of Anglesey. Even after the completion of the harbour works, stone was extracted for silica brick making on the site. |
