| Description |
English: View from the bridge Looking north-east from the bridge at Great Bedwyn. On the right is the Kennet and Avon Canal. There are both short and long term moorings here. In the centre is the River Dun, a tributary of the River Kennet. The canal, when built in 1794 onwards, followed this river valley from Hungerford all the way to its summit at Crofton. On the left is the railway. The Great Western Railway built this route up the same valley in 1862. Today Great Bedwyn is the terminus of the local service from Reading and is occasionally served by fast trains to and from the West Country. |
