English: Bodice ornament, gold, Colombian emeralds, diamonds, enamel. 1700-1715, Spain. From the treasury of the Cathedral of the Virgin of the Pillar, in Saragossa.
It's one of a group of jewels purchased by the Museum in 1870, when the Cathedral authorities sold off treasures presented to the shrine of the Virgin in order to complete their building programme. Victoria and Albert Museum, no.325-1870. ( Rooms 91-92. Photographs in these rooms are now allowed.) |
