Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Unusual footpath feature This octagonal shaped area of cement is set into the path of the riverside walk by the corner of Riverside Road and South Bridge Street in Selkirk, and was commissioned to celebrate the upgrading of the walkway by the Ettrick Water. It was constructed by a local artist and local celebrities and dignitaries placed their feet in the wet cement to form the impressions. The perimeter stone band is inscribed on two sides with the words of a common riding song, "Up wi' the Souters O' Selkirk". The people of the town are called "souters", named after the town's traditional shoe cobblers.
