Summary
[edit]DescriptionUmlaufberge Neckarburg derivative & OTM.png |
Auf der Karte ist zudem ein dritter Umlaufberg ein Stück weiter nördlich/flussabwärts zu sehen English: Abandoned and dried-up bend/loop of the Neckar river valley incised into the Triassic plateau NW of the Swabian Alb, a few kilometers north/downstream from Rottweil, Baden-Wurttemberg, southwestern Germany. At the upper right of the photograph there are two hills/mounds, one lying behind the other. They represent two adjacent cores or spurs of entrenched meanders of the Neckar. On top of the hill in the back, which is not only higher but also an active meander spur that has only been isolated from the surrounding plateau by a railroad cutting through its neck (see map), there are the overgrown ruins of the Neckarburg (“Neckar castle”) visible. In the map to the right, a red arrow marks the position and viewing direction of the photographer, and the blue dashed line marks the inferred former course of the Neckar river. Furthermore, there is a third meander core hill visible on the map which is a bit further to the north/downstream. |
