Description
English: Fire Controlman First Class E.M. Smith, Gun Captain of one of the ship's nine 16"/50 Mk.VII main battery guns, opens his gun's breech plug, during Missouri's shakedown cruise, August 1944. The gun's polished steel breech is marked with the stamp of its manufacturer, the Naval Gun Factory, Washington Navy Yard, DC. Note tattoo on FC1c Smith's left forearm.
