YHA discarded this hostel in September 2007. See Elenydd Wilderness Hostels Trust ( www.elenydd-hostels.co.uk ) for information about saving this, the only accommodation this high in the valley. Huw Jones was the last farmer to live in this valley, and he sold Dolgoch to the YHA in 1967 and land surrounding it much more recently. He was born there in the 1930s, and has published a small book of reminiscences and diaries (in Welsh) which is well worth investigating. There were seven farms in the valley at the time, but the devastating winter of 1947 was the start of the complete depopulation by 1967. Since his 2006 book, one smallholding is again occupied, and another farm shows signs of activity.
