„Barbarenstein“ (1912) am Römerturm bei Pohlheim, am Obergermanischen Limes. Aus der Hinweistafel: "(...) Der Turm steht auf einem Grundstück, das der Gießener Psychatriedirktor Prof. Dr. Robert Sommer 1910 vom Fürsten von Braunfels erwarb. Mit dem Ankauf sollte die drohende Zerstörung des an dieser Stelle noch hervorragend erhaltenen Wallgrabens durch landwirtschaftliche Nutzung verhindert werden. (...) Im Sommer 1912 ließ Robert Sommer gemeinsam mit seiner Frau Emmy hier einen Gedenkstein errichten, den sog. Barbarenstein. Seinen Namen verdankt der Stein der eingemeißelten Inschrift. Sie gibt Zeugnis von der Geschichtsauffassung zu Beginn des 20. Jahrhunderts, die auf eine Polarisierung zwischen römischer Zivilisation und einem idealisierten Germanentum abzielte (...)
