Description |
English: Sabre, probably of Ottoman origin, which, according to tradition, was captured by Herman Wrangel (1584-1643) from the Polish warlord Jan Zamoyski (1542-1605). Possibly both the sabre and its shield and arm-plates came to Sweden with Carl Gustaf Wrangel (1613-1676). Other information suggests that he won the items in a battle against Jan Sobiepan Zamoyski, Jan Zamoyski's grandson. In this version, the booty was taken in 1656, at the beginning of the war which the Poles call "the Swedish tidal wave" (1655-1660). |
