| Description |
English: Track along Main Drain This view was taken in northwesterly direction from the start of a track leading along the Main Drain from here.
The Main Drain was cut in 1848 to allow lowering of the levels in the Middle Drain and the drainage of the surrounding land for cultivation. In order to preserve the higher level in the Well Creek, the Mullicourt Aqueduct (and a lock at Marmont Priory) were built, thus preserving the important commercial navigation link through Upwell and Outwell and onwards to Peterborough. The water level in Well Creek is more than 2 metres above that in the Main Drain. |
