“Philadelphia Jan 18 1853
Dear Dick
I received your letter to day about 12 o clock and now about 8 o clock in the evening I am answering it I was skating this after noon down at the corner of [School?] 6 and locust streets their is a pond at the corner of 6 and locust streets about a square long and a square wide and their wher I was skating. I see Sam and [Ken?]every day we have had a little snow here when you Write to me I want you to Write me a very long letter and then I will write you a very long one, you said when you Wrote to me that you would send in the letter a tail of a Hair or cat dog rat mous or the feather of a bird that you caught in your traps and I did not get it when you wrote to me I only got a mint drop which did not at all look like a Hairs tail or the feather of a bird. Dick I want to know if you Directed your letter when you write to me tell me if you did it I send you back the same seal that you sent me it is alls well when you write to me send it back in your letter and then I will send it back in my letter and then you will send it and then I will and so on pleas My bad writing and misspelt words which are many [Jo?] Kiser has got a letter from you and I think he has got one from Bill M. I seen him to day he and his Brothers was going out to the [School?] to Skate. Ken and Sam S and Mel and Jo R. are all very well Dick you must answer this letter as soon as you get it. Dick dos your teachers look at your letters when they come and when you send them a way I am a going to write to Bill to you must answer my letter as soon as I answered yours we have got 2 dogs at the mill I spent a very happy christmas and New year. I have had some fun to day a skateing on that Pond I wish you could come here and and Play with us a pon it. we would have TURN OVER"

"fun It is very late and as I have to write to Bill I must say good by you must write me a very long letter and then I will write you a very long one I think you have good skating out their by this time havent you when you write to me tell me all a bout things going on their so good by write very very very very soon good by can I remain yours truly

I cant write you as long a letter as I have wrote Dick because I have not got time but I will write you a long one some time very soon you must write me a long one and then I will write you a long one. when you write tell me all a bout what you dos this letter is just as long as yours was Pleas excuse Bad writing and misspelt words I am in a very great hurry you must write to me very soon and I will write to you very soon all the Boys in summer street that you and Dick knows are very well so good by and good night yours Truly
