Boston Public Library (Rare Books Department) copy 1 is halfbound in sheepskin and mottled paper over boards. A monogrammed bookplate with the phrase, "Freedom lives hence -- January 1, MDCCCLXIII" is present on the front pastedown. The booksellers' label of Basil Montagu Pickering (Aldine motto, with an address of 196 Picadilly) is on the same pastedown. "By J. Dryden" is inscribed on the title page above the place of publication
Boston Public Library (Rare Books Department) copy 2 is quarterbound in red sheepskin and combed marbled paper over boards. The armorial bookplate of the Barton Library is present on the front pastedown, along with an inscription that reads, "Thomas P. Barton, with the regards of Winthrop [illegible], May 17, 1854." A blue piece of notepaper, with a list of various editions in the hand of Thomas Pennant Barton, is tipped to the front flyleaf. An ink inscription, in an early hand, is present on the title page
Boston Public Library (Rare Books Department) copy 3 displays the typographical peculiariaties that ESTC ascribes to a second variant of the first edition, namely page 7 is mislabeled as 5.
