English: The entrance to Greenknowe Tower The entrance has a hoodmoulded lintel carved with the arms and initials of James Seton and his second wife, Jane Edmonston, and the date 1581. The doorway has a yett, a heavy wrought-iron grill, which prevented attempts to batter or burn the external timber door down. There is a benchmark to the right of the doorstep. |
