Summary
[edit]DescriptionThe end of the Greta - geograph.org.uk - 1235546.jpg |
English: The end of the Greta. Although many canoeists get off the River Greta at Greta Bridge, the full trip follows the river down to the Meeting of the Waters and on down the River Tees. The sting in the tail of the Greta is a grade 4 section just before the Dairy Bridge where the water drops into narrow slots where neither portage nor inspection is easy at high water levels, though both are possible at the lower end of the range of paddleable levels. This deep still pool lies beyond to collect any swimmers, with just a short rocky bounce down behind the photographer to reach the Tees. The Greta needs a great deal of rain or snowmelt, and would not be navigable at the summer level shown here, when even the Tees itself is too low to paddle. For a view of the rapid at a good winter level: 1673461. |
