Description
English: The barque Peerless

A portrait of the wooden ship ‘Peeress’ in a breeze. She is surrounded by other shipping including a small coastal craft in sail on the right.

Built at Sunderland in 1859 for Somes Bros, the ship was sold in 1865 to the Merchant Shipping Co. with which firm she remained on the Australia and India routes. In 1884 she changed hands, converted to a barque and was broken up in 1889.

It is signed ‘R H Nibbs’.
