The Stephen and Harriet Myers Residence, the voice of Black Abolitionists and Freedom Seekers
Summary
[edit]DescriptionThe Stephen and Harriet Myers Residence.tif |
English: The Stephen and Harriet Myers Residence is a 10 room Greek Revival architecture building built in 1847 by Black sloop Captain John Johnson. It was a central Underground Railroad site in the mid-1850s. It was home to Underground Railroad activists Stephen and Harriet Myers, it was a place of sanctuary for Freedom Seekers, and it was the center of operations for the Vigilance Committee. The historic underground railroad civil rights activism that took place at The Myers Residence connects this historic artifact with civil rights activism today. |
