English: The Hunter's Stone, near Shipley Bridge This stone is referred to in Crossing's "Dartmoor" of 1909 as a memorial to "followers of hounds", there being a number of hunts that cover the Moor. Originally it had the names of Messrs Carew, Treeby, Trelawny and Bulteel inscribed on the top and sides, and was believed to have been erected by a Mr C Mohun-Harris who lived in the now demolished Brent Moor House. The inscriptions have been added to since, commemorating the death of at least one of the men in the 1914-18 War |
