| Description |
English: The Former Gifford and Garvald Railway Line The view where the former Gifford and Garvald Railway Line approaches the A6093. Originally the road went over the railway line. On the left there is the cycle path sign directing cyclists to Ormiston, while on the right there are the remains of the signalling system from the railway.
The Gifford and Garvald Railway Line ran from Ormiston to Gifford (it was never extended to Garvald). The line served the many coal mines on its route. There were stations at Ormiston, Pencaitland, West Saltoun, Humbie and Gifford. Part of the line is now a Nature Trail and Cycle Path. |
