Summary

[edit]
Description
English: The Eildon Mid Hill Indicator The summit of Eildon Mid Hill is marked with a granite block topped by a brass plate inscribed with the names of the many hills and other points of interest visible round the compass from the Eildons. This was erected in 1927 at a cost of £140, raised by public subscription. (Source: Scottish Wildlife Trust booklet on The Eildon Hills edited by David Parkinson).

A dedication on the side of the granite block reads:

IN MEMORY OF SIR WALTER SCOTT FROM THIS SPOT HE WAS WONT TO VIEW AND POINT THE GLORIES OF THE BORDERLAND

Engraved on the centre of the plate is:

Geographica Indicator of the EILDON HILLS Height 1385 ft

In this southwest view there are three sheets of water in the centre of the photo, the nearest being Bowdenmoor Reservoir by the trees, then to the right, a pond near Bowdenmoor Farm, and finally Lady Moss on Faughhill Moor.
