Image title | The Bowen Mansion, as of 2015 the home of the Pueblo County Office of Planning and Development in Pueblo, Colorado. This home was built in 1893 for Thomas Meade Bowen, a prominent local judge and former brevet brigadier general in the Union Army during the Civil War. The building changed hands several times, eventually becoming a boarding house. Over the years the mansion deteriorated badly. It was purchased by the Associates for Psychotherapy and Education in 1987. This organization invested $125,000 to renovate the Bowen Mansion, restoring the structure to excellent condition with only minor alterations to the interior. The home's design is a cross between Queen Anne and Richardsonian Romanesque styles. It is surfaced in read brick, with stone lintels over the windows and intricate woodwork on the facade. The roof line facing 12th Street is shaped like the letter "M." This feature was designed at Judge Bowen's request to honor his wife, Margaretta Bowen. |
