Highsmith Archive.; Title, date and keywords based on information provided by the photographer.; The tall building is the West Virginia Building, originally constructed by Meaner and Hanloser as the "Union Bank and Trust Building" in 1924-25. The bank collapsed (fiscally, not literally) in 1929, and the lobby became home to Walgreens. The building was renamed "The West Virginia Building," because it was the tallest commercial building in West Virginia at the time (it is now the state's tallest residential building).
