Description
Bahasa Indonesia: Kain tenun Iban merupakan ragam wastra nusantara yang diproduksi oleh masyarakat Dayak di Kalimantan Barat. Menurut Hartadi dan Agustiah (1992: 11), pengetahuan dan keterampilan menenun yang dimiliki oleh masyarakat dari hulu Sungai Kapuas, termasuk Dayak Iban, diperkirakan diperoleh sejak abad ke-6. Pengetahuan dan keterampilan menenun ini pada umumnya diwariskan dari generasi yang lebih tua kepada yang lebih muda, misalnya dari seorang ibu kepada anak perempuannya. Adapun kesakralan di balik kain tenun ikat ini, seperti adanya ritual khusus yang dilakukan sebelum memulai pembelajaran menenun dan larangan untuk menenun saat ada peristiwa sedih, yakni kematian, menugal, dan pembangunan rumah panjang. Dalam proses pembuatannya, terdapat tiga tahap utama, yaitu tahap sebelum pewarnaan, tahap pewarnaan benang dan tahap menenun. ketersediaan benang tenun merupakan hal penting dalam proses produksi sehingga menjaga ketersediaan benang dengan cara memberikan dan menyediakan benang melalui kelompok usaha merupakan salah satu upaya untuk mempertahankan kain tenun ikat Dayak Iban ini.
English: Iban woven fabric was a variety of Indonesian literature given by the Dayak community in West Kalimantan. According to Hartadi and Agustiah (1992: 11), the knowledge and skills of weaving owned by the people from the headwater of the Kapuas River, including Dayak Iban, were estimated to have been obtained since the 6th century. Weaving knowledge and skills were generally passed on from the older generation to the younger generation, for example from the mother to her daughter. In addition, there were also sacredness behind this ikat fabric, such as special rituals performed before starting the weaving lesson and the prohibition to weave when there was a sad event, like death, menugal, and the construction of longhouses. In the making process, there were three main steps, such as the stage before colouring, yarn colouring stage and the weaving stage. Availability of weaving yarn was an important thing in the production process so maintaining yarn availability by giving and providing yarn through business groups is an effort to maintain this Dayak Iban’s ikat fabric.
