Summary

English: There is significant co-occurrence of tuberculosis (TB) and HIV. People who have compromised immune systems are at greater risk for acquiring TB. Our job is to make sure that people who are living with HIV are screened and tested for TB. And people who are diagnosed with TB are tested for HIV. There are effective preventive therapies for TB among persons living with HIV. At CDC we seek to rapidly increase the numbers, worldwide and especially in Africa, of people living with HIV taking TB preventive therapy that can stave off development of active TB disease and save lives.
