Vinet (d. 1847),the theologian, and farther on is the handsome Balais de Justice,or Tribunal Federal (PL B, 2), built in 1886 by Recordon andadorned with frescoes bv Paul Robert. In front of the latter is amarble Statue of William Tell, by Ant. Mercie (1901). To theW. is the Casino Lausanne-Ouchy (cafe-restaurant; concerts).—From the N.W. side of the Montbenon the Bont Chauderon (PI. A,B,3), built in 1903-5, spans the deep valley of the Flon (p. 301)to the Blace de Chauderon, with the Ecole de Commerce (right)and the Credit Fonder (left), whence we may return via the Ruedes Terreaux, past the Kursaal-Varietes and the Thedtre Lumen(p. 299), to the G-rand-Pont and the Place St. Francois. D, 2,250 beds) and an Institut Agricole. The *Signal (2125; PL D, 1), 1j4 hr. above the chateau, is a famouspoint of view. Tramway No. 6 (p. 300) from tbe Place St. Francois to thePlace de la Barre, near the Place du Nord (PI. D, 2), 2 minutes walk via,the Rue du Vallon from the station of the cable-tramway (5 min., V3 M.long; train every 20 min.; ascent 30 c, descent 20 c, return 40 a). At thetop (2090) are the Pavilion-Restaurant du Signal, the Pens. Pre-Fleuri,and (to the N.W.) the Hot. Majestic (p. 299) and the Hot.-Pens. Village-Snisse (p. 299).
