| Description |
English: Swillington Bridge A two span masonry arch bridge carrying the A642 over the River Aire. A steel Warren Truss footbridge was added in the 1960s, I believe, to provide a safe crossing for pedestrians, since there is limited width between the masonry parapets. Subsidence from coal mining upstream and downstream has resulted in scour of the river bed under the bridge. Scour protection was provided after the bridge was closed to traffic during the floods of late 2000. |
