English: Stranded narrowboat on the Stourbridge Canal, Stourton Staffordshire While the canal is empty, the three boatmen grounded have saved some money by doing most of the blacking of their hulls. This is narrowboat Odysseus, high and dry above the Stourton top lock.
Following the collapse of the embankment a mile to the east on the night of September 7th, the canal has drained out. Heavy rain, often continuous through the summer weakened the embankment, and according this stranded boatman, the water was six inches above the tow path before the breach, and within twenty minutes or so the canal was empty and he was on the bottom. http://www.waterscape.com/features-and-articles/news/2254/stourbridge-canal-breach-update |
