Description
English: St Michael's Church, Baddesley Clinton, Warwickshire, England. Hatchment to a member of the Ferrers family of Baddesley Clinton. When Nicholas Brome died in 1517, the estate of Baddesley Clinton passed to his daughter, who in 1500 had married Sir Edward Ferrers, Sheriff of Warwickshire. The house remained in the Ferrers family until 1940, when it was purchased by Thomas Walker, a relative of the family who changed his name to Ferrers. His son, who inherited it in 1970, sold the estate in 1980 to the National Trust, which now manages it. Arms: Quarterly of 10:
  • 1: Gules, seven mascles or 3,3,1 (Arms of Ferrers (of Groby) (arms of De Quincy))
  • 2: Sable, six horseshoes argent, 3,2,1 (Ferrers canting arms/Ferrers ancient)
  • 3: Azure, a chevron ermine between three escallops argent (Townshend)
  • 4: Plantagenet quartering France (Royal arms of England, pre-Stewart dynasty)
  • 5: Sable, a lion passant guardant or between three esquire's helmets argent (Compton)
  • 6&10: Vairy or and gules (Arms of Ferrers, Earl of Derby)
  • 7: Or, a cross patoncée gules
  • 8: Paly of six or and azure, a canton ermine (Shirley)
  • 9: Argent, a cross engrailed gules between four water bougets sable (Bourchier)
  • 10: Vairy or and gules (Arms of Ferrers, Earl of Derby)
