Summary[edit]

Description
English: Hazel fell in love with astronomy and dedicated a song to it. Lyrics:

First comes the sun that gives us light,
Inside the core conditions are right
To cause the proton-proton chain
Where mass is lost and energy gained

Now Mercury is rather small
With craters covering it all,
It had volcanoes long ago,
But now activity is low

Next Venus comes, about the size
Of Earth, but this is just a guise,
Its pressure and its atmosphere
And temperature are cause to fear

So Earth might be your better bet
To live, for here our needs are met,
We even have a decent moon
That maybe we can live on soon

Now Mars we know a lot about
With rovers sent to check it out
Spirit and Opportunity,
More recently curiosity

Past Mars the asteroids draw near
Though really there's no need to fear,
They're spaced so very far apart
That hitting one would be quite an art

Next Jupiter comes towering in,
In size and mass it's sure to win,
Its great red spot alone could fit
Two earths or more inside of it

Its moons are awesome, that's agreed,
Io, Europa, Ganymede, Callisto,
And could it be true
That there's life on Europa too?

We come to Saturn with its rings
That really are quite breathtaking
They've got some gaps in, mainly due
To moons, you know there's quite a few

There's Mimas and Enceladus,
Pandora and Prometheus,
The massive Titan dwarfs them all,
Five thousand kilometres tall

And now we come to Uranus,
Who's got a really curious
Rotation axis, not aligned
With all the others, never mind!

The last planet, but not the least,
Compared to earth it's still a beast,
It's Neptune, and its moon's quite neat,
Its retrograde orbit's rather sweet

Well now we come to poor pluto,
The scientists have voted no,
We had to draw the line somewhere,
I'm sorry pluto, life's not fair

But now you get to be the king
Of the Plutinos under your wing
And all the other KBOs,
How many are there? No one knows

But that's not all, much further out
You'll see some comets strewn about,
Sometimes the comets end up here
Although the Oort cloud's far from near

And that's the solar system's end
From here you go alone my friend,
The trip's a one-way trip you know,
