Summary
[edit]| Description | The annular eclipse of the sun of 5-20-12 as seen from Albuquerque, NM. Here is the so-called "second contact". The moon has been slowly crawling across the face of the sun for about an hour, and it finally reaches the point where the moon is exactly lined up with the sun. But the moon is too far away to cover the whole sun, so you see the ring of the sun around the moon ("ring of fire"). The edges of these two objects separate at about the 50 second point. Listen for the crowd to cheer as the two edges separate. |
