Description British painter
English painter of history paintings and portraits. He was appointed draughtsman in a voyage projected by the East India Company in 1783, under Captain Henry Wilson, in which he was wrecked on the Pelew Islands before proceeding to Canton and thence to Bengal. He painted portraits and historical subjects, sixty-five of which he exhibited (1779–1821) at the Royal Academy.

English: Sir William Beatty, circa 1770-1842

A half-length portrait in which the sitter is turning to the left and looking directly at the viewer. He is wearing a physician's full-dress uniform of 1805-25. Beatty was senior surgeon on board the 'Victory' at Trafalgar, where he attended Nelson at his death. From 1806 to 1840, he was Physician to Greenwich Hospital and was knighted in 1831.
