Summary

[edit]
Description
English: General view of the meeting: - Filippo Maria Pandolfi, Vice-President of the CEC in charge of Science, Research and Development, Telecommunications, Information Technology and Innovation and the Joint Research Centre, on the right, and Ivan Silayev, Head of the Mission of Russia to the EC, on the left. Six years after the devastating accident at the Chernobyl nuclear plant, the CEC is entering into an agreement with the three republics of the Commonwealth of Independent States most closely concerned. With institutes in Russia, Belarus and Ukraine, the Commission intended to carry out an extensive programme to study the nature of the radioactive contamination resulting from the accident, to broaden the technical skills needed to control such accidents in the future and to improve emergency management procedures.
