Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Armin Navabi was born in Iran and raised as a Muslim. But he started questioning his faith, eventually left Islam, and founded the online community Atheist Republic. When it became too dangerous for him, he fled to the United States, where he continued his activism as an outspoken atheist and critic of Islam.

During this panel discussion on "Out, Loud and Proud with Ex-Muslims" at the International Conference on Free Expression and Conscience, London, 22-24 July 2017 (#IWant2BFree), panelists were asked what the benefits and costs were of being an outspoken ex-Muslim (instead of keeping quiet about it), and whether the benefits outweigh the costs. Armin gives his perspective, including that of the strategy of 'reforming Islam' (as advocated by some) instead of leaving it all together.
