Description
Bahasa Indonesia: Semah laut merupakan tradisi ritual unik yang berlangsung di Pulau Karimata pada setiap awal April setiap tahunnya. Disebut unik karena maski bernama semah laut, pada pelaksanaannya tetap melibatkan daratan sebagai tujuan dari prosesinya. Termasuk pula waktu pelaksanaannya yang mulai terlembagakan secara tetap, yakni setiap 4 April atau tanggal empat pada bulan keempat setiap tahunnya. Seakan angka empat ini merupakan bilangan yang berhubungan dengan kepercayaan mereka selama ini. Namun, waktu pelaksanaan ini ternyata berhubungan dengan berakhirnya musim ikan tenggiri di sekitar perairan laut Karimata. Seiring dengan berubahnya musim angin laut pada awal-awal tahun antara Februari hingga Maret, pada saat yang sama ternyata banyak ikan tenggiri yang bermigrasi atau masuk ke wilayah perairan sekitar Karimata. Pada saat inilah nelayan Karimata menikmati hasil laut yang melimpah. Setelah musim tenggiri mulai berakhir, yakni sekitar awal-awal April, mereka kemudian melaksanakan kegiatan ritual semah laut. Salah satu tujuannya adalah mensyukuri atas melimpahnya hasil laut yang mereka peroleh dalam satu tahun musim tersebut. Tidak semua bagian dari prosesi semata semata ditujukan pada laut. Bagian dari apa yang menjadi prosesinya ternyata juga ditujukan pada daratan Pulau Karimata sebagai tempat tinggal mereka. Dalam pelaksanaannya mereka kemudian menggunakan dua perlengkapan utama, yakni miniatur balai yang mewakili darat dan miniatur jung atau perahu yang mewakili laut. Dalam rangkaian prosesinya, ternyata tidak semata melarung jung ke tengah laut dan menempatkan balai di lokasi yang dianggap keramat. Selain lokasi-lokasinya, persinggahan dan persembahan yang mereka lakukan ini tentu saja memiliki makna-maknanya tersendiri yang unik, termasuk pula pada setiap aktivitas atau tindakan, atribut, dan sikap yang diberikan selama prosesi berlangsung.
English: Semah Laut is a unique ritual tradition that takes place on Karimata Island in early April every year. It is called unique because the maski is named Semah Laut, in practice it still involves land as the destination of the procession. This also includes the implementation time which has begun to be institutionalized regularly, namely every April 4th or the fourth day of the fourth month each year. As if the number four is a number related to their beliefs so far. However, the timing of this implementation was in fact related to the end of the mackerel season around the Karimata Sea. As the sea breeze season changes in the early months between February and March, at the same time, it turns out that many mackerel fish migrate to or enter the waters around Karimata. It is at this time that Karimata fishermen enjoy abundant marine products. After the mackerel season starts to end, which is around early April, they carry out the Semah Laut ritual. One of the goals is to be grateful for the abundance of marine products they get in one year that season. Not all parts of the procession are solely aimed at the sea. Part of what became the procession was also aimed at the mainland of Karimata Island as their place of residence. In practice, they use two main equipment, namely a miniature hall that represents land and miniature junks or boats that represent the sea. In the series of processions, it turns out that it is not just throwing the junk out into the middle of the sea and placing a hall in a location that is considered sacred. Apart from the locations, the stops and offerings that they make of course have their own unique meanings, including every activity or action, attribute, and attitude that is given during the procession.
