Summary
[edit]DescriptionScenes at Seoul, circa 1899–1912, filmed by Burton Holmes.webm |
English: This 3-minutes film footage was made by Burton Holmes, An American explorer and writer who visited in Korea in 1901 (and 1912). This is the oldest surviving film footage that contains the scenery of Korea. In this footage, We can see some places in Seoul, which are still remain today.
I have to change the title and the explanation, since I learned that this footage is mixed up with the footage taken in 1901 and 1912. According to the Travelogue series and other notes, Burton Holmes came to Korea twice, on April-May 1901, and July 1912. I firstly wrote the explanation according to the claims of Dr. Heemoon Cho from Inha University, but my own research proved that he was wrong. I later had a change to see the original film stock and found that the George-Eastman house mixed up those seperate footages when they gave the original negative to Koreans in 2004. So far, I've made some commentary on some other videos which I'll explain the facts I've learned from my two years of research on this footage. I'll post it later on my channel. |
