English: Scammonden Dam The dam was completed in 1971 as part of the contract for the construction of the Pennine section of the M62 motorway. It consist of 4.5 million cubic yards of rockfill, with a clay core. The clay was imported from the Gildersome to Lofthouse Section of the M62. The dam was officially opened by Her Majesty the Queen on the 14th October 1971.
