“Sixth day evening
Dear Brother Richard
We recieved thy very exceptable and interesting letter this morning and were very sorry to hear of Cousin Lizzie’s sickness but hope she is better ere this. Thee spoke of those pictures it was that one we sent in the letter for we found it would not weigh so much after cutting off the piece. where did you go last First-day for a walk. was it to what is called Renwick Castle? I went there while I was in Syracuse. thee wanted to know if we had killed all our hogs. now we have killed but one and that is not a very large one. I believe we have not killed one of thy chickens. Today we have a real Rug scrape Aunt Margaret was down but we did not get them done Mother & Aunty went up to the village this afternoon Aunt Mary Ann was quite poorly but this is stale news I expect for Julia has told you all the news"
Page 2:
"Seventh-day morning, it is quite dreary this morn; snowing a very little at intervals. I wish it would snow hard or not at all. Mary & myself are niether of us very well, both having bad colds and sore throats. My throat is so sore I can hardly speak loud. Mary has just got up but does not feel much better hope she will soon though. She wrote to Wilson last Fourth-day. Francis Abbey started for California Fifth-day two of her cousins went as far as New York – with her. she sails next second-day in the Prometheus. Amos Kinney and his son were here yesterday to dinner, he has not got his Farm back yet. Aunt Mary Ann is much better now. Mother thought the telgraphic dispatch did her a great deal of good she was sitting up when Ma came away. Mother made some delightful Taffy yesterday. I think I must close for the present – so Good bye
