Description

Part of plate Plate 17, Insurance Maps of Seattle, Washington, Volume 1, Sanborn Map Company, 1904. This is one of a series of images from this and other nearby pages showing great detail of the Pioneer Square neighborhood at this date.

This image is the block south of Jackson Street, east of what is now Occidental Way South and west of the alley between Occidental and Second Avenue South. The building shown here, best known as the Washington Shoe Building, still survives as of 2008; there is now another building to its south, where there were once railway tracks. This is a raw image of a plastic-covered document: some reflections and also some shadow.
