Notes 'Chevy Chase’ was an iron full-rigger built for Blythe Bros. of Liverpool in October 1863. Launched from Vernon’s yard, also in Liverpool, she was a handsome 3-master registered at 678 tons (gross & net) and measuring 177 feet in length with a 28 foot beam. Although she began her career trading to India, in 1866 she transferred into the South American trade where she remained until 1872. Sold that year to G.H. Fletcher & Co. of Liverpool, her new owner ran her out of the Clyde to San Francisco, a route she maintained until 1876 when she was cut down to a barque to save on crewing costs. She continued trading thereafter until disappearing from record in the mid-1880s.
