Transcript InfoField | English: On front of document on right: “Elba 2Mo 22nd 1827 Respected Friend The time has now [been passed?] that for which I set to come down there when Levi was here and am not in a situation to come or to do much for thee yet --- I am sorry to relate that I have met with a serious disappointment I have expected until lately to receive about $250 in a lump together But in the contrary I have rec’d nothing and am not like to very soon unless I take a Potash works or an article of a lot of land by which I ca save myself I think I had better take the ashery I may then in the course of two or three months raise something from it or sooner if I take it immediately – I had some conversation with Levi about buying my place there, he did not know whether he could undertake it this spring or not, but he would talk with thee about it --- I should like to know [continues [On back of document] whether he has spoken to thee if not I wish thee would try to get him to take it if he is in any situation to take it—for I must depend on selling it and have been in hopes that I could have affected it before this time – I have made calculations to go to keeping house soon if an arrangement of that kind can be made – other wise I dont know as I shall dare to undertake it.
