Title
Roman pin
Description
English: A cast copper-alloy pin of the Roman period. The pin shaft is spherical in shape, with uneven corrosion down the length of the shaft. The majority of corrosion occurs on the lower half of the shaft such that the tip is particularly brittle. The pin head has ridge and groove decoration such that it looks triple beaded. The object is paralleled by an example from South Shields Roman fort (Allason-Jones and Miket 1984:180-181). It is probably a hair pin or dress pin. It is 98.97mm long, though the shaft is bent into an L-shape.
