Description
English: Robben Island is a South African National Museum and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Over the last 500 years of documented human habitation, the island served many purposes, mostly linked to banishment and human suffering. The site is synonymous with the recent liberation struggle on the Southern African subcontinent and evokes a sense of triumph of the human spirit over adversity.
