Public domain The Rim Kkok Jong film series was first published in North Korea and is now in the public domain because its copyright protection has expired by virtue of the 2001 Copyright Law of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, enacted 2001 (details). The series meets the following criteria:
  • It is a "work whose publication, issuance, performance, broadcasting, show and exhibition is prohibited" in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea

The series was prohibited in North Korea in 1997.[1] As of 18 May 2011, North Korean authorities are preventing people from singing the theme song to Rim Kkok Jong.[2] Thus, the film series was in the public domain on the URAA date of 28 April 2003.

Note that North Korea had no copyright relations with the US before the URAA date of 28 April 2003 (details), so a North Korean work only needs to satisfy conditions 1 and 3 in the template below for that work to be in the public domain in the United States (e.g. a North Korean film published in 1990 and then prohibited in 1997 would be in the public domain in the United States).
