English: Newsreel Polygoonjournaal in which Dutch newsitems of a certain week are presented in cinema's throughout the Netherlands in advance of the main program.
Now that the construction of libraries in the villages isn't possible and people are hungry for literature, the Public Library in Leeuwarden comes up with the idea to set up a driving library service, christened Bibliobus. This is a small library build on the chassis of a 3.500 kg Renault lorry, which tours around and stops in several villages. SHOTS: - The driver of the bibliobus, librarian Wilke Meyboom, cleans the windscreen of the bus and drives off; - shots from Meyboom driving the bus through the countryside; Meyboom turns the steering wheel; - on a narrow country road she steers the bus, with the wheels one side offroad in the shoulder, around an obstacle; - the bus enters the main street of a village; some youth is already waiting for the bus; a bunch of little children run after the bus; - farmers' children leave the farm and head for the bus with books under their arms; - in the street walks a mother with two toddlers; - a man with a Dutch National Railway(?) cap heads towards the bus, takes off his clogs and enters; - int. bus: three walls are entirely covered with book shelves; the daylight enters through a window in the roof; -the people browse for the books on the shelves; Meyboom advises them to find books and, sitting behind a small table, she manages the administrative work; - ext. bus, parked in the village street; - bus leaves the village.

De Openbare Leeszaal en Bibliotkeek in Leeuwarden komt op de idee, zolang het bouwen van filialen in de dorpen rond Leeuwarden nog niet mogelijk is, een rijdende bibliotheek op te zetten, gedoopt Bibliobus, opgebouwd op het chassis van een 3,5 ton Renault-vrachtauto, die de diverse dorpen aandoet. SHOTS: - De chauffeuse van de bus, bibliothecaresse mej. Wilke Meyboom, maakt de voorruit van de bus schoon en rijdt weg; - shots vanuit de bus tijdens de rit door de landelijke omgeving; Meyboom draait aan het grote stuur; - op een smalle buitenweg stuurt ze het gevaarte, met de wielen aan één kant in de berm, behendig om een obstakel heen; - de bus rijdt in een dorp de hoofdstraat binnen; grotere kinderen staan de bus al op te wachten; een drom kleinere kinderen holt er achteraan; - boerenkinderen verlaten de boerderij en gaan, boeken onder de arm, op weg naar de bus; - door de straat loopt een moeder met twee peuters; - een man met een NS-pet(?) komt aanlopen bij de bus, doet zijn klompen uit en gaat naar binnen; - int. bus: drie wanden zijn van onder tot boven voorzien van boekenplanken; door een dakvenster komt daglicht naar binnen; de mensen zoeken op de schappen naar gewenste boeken; Meyboom adviseert en handelt, zittend achter een klein tafeltje, de uitleen af; - ext. van de bus, staande in de dorpsstraat; - bus rijdt weg uit het dorp. |
