English: On front of document: “Waterloo 3mo 14th 1831 Esteemed Friend R.H. Stevens yours of the 4th inst has just come to hand in answer to which I can only say that I [inserted] as Executor to R.Hunt estate [inserted] hold 2 notes against Asa W Douglass 1 dated Sept 18 1819 for 63 15/100$ with issue 1 dated Sept 18 1819 for 112.75/100 and One Oct 23rd 1816 Signed by Lewis Douglass + Co $182.36/100 on which is Endorsed is Seventy one dollars I have let those demands lay thinking when Douglas was able he would be willing to do all he could for his Creditors which is still my belief anything that he is able to do I will be satisfied with should it not be more than 1/3 the original amount. If that is all he feels able to do he may make an [inserted] endorsed [inserted] note payable at the Lockport Bank at 90 days which will answer and hand the same to Lyman Spaulding of your place”
