Summary

[edit]
Description
English: On June 12, 1973, President Richard Nixon spoke with General Brent G. Scowcroft by telephone. Recording devices in the Old Executive Office Building captured this conversation.

In an effort to spur full implementation of the January Paris Accords, President Nixon sent national security adviser Henry Kissinger to meet with Le Duc Tho in Paris in May and June of 1973. In this conversation segment, General Scowcroft updates President Nixon on South Vietnam's reactions to the impending joint communique between the United States and North Vietnam. They discuss South Vietnam's cooperation and the likelihood of hearing a response before Kissinger and Tho's meeting on June 13. They comment on the concession of democratic elections already won by South Vietnam during the Paris Peace Accords. President Nixon suggests that United States foreign aid could be restricted if the peace efforts are not successful.
