English: Reduced oscillatory flow leads to heart valve dysgenesis. Wild-type hearts at 96 hpf have functional valve leaflets that prevent retrograde flow across the AV valve. Fish exposed to reduced oscillatory flow through lidocaine exposure experience valve dysgenesis. Retrograde flow results from the absence of valve leaflets. Fish exposed to lidocaine and incubated at elevated temperatures, restoring the natural heart rate, do not experience valve dysgenesis. |
