Description
English: Reverend Edmund Nelson, 1722-1802

A half-length portrait, to right but facing the viewer, in a black clerical gown and bands, and his own hair, looking out of the picture space to meet the gaze of the viewer with a red drape arranged behind. The portrait purports to show Nelson's father in middle life and was acquired as attributed to William Beechey, which is not the case. It may however by a copy (if not the source) of a related print, PAD4474.
